Ruben Amorim has coached his first Manchester United match, but it didn't go as planned as they were held to a draw by Ipswich.

In his first pre-match press conference, the newly appointed coach discussed his vision, tactics, fans, players, and former coach Erik ten Hag.

The Portuguese tactician also revealed that Jose Mourinho sent him a message when he was confirmed as the club's new coach.

Amorim's Man United are 12th in the Premier League after 12 games and will be expected to take the team much higher in the table as the season unfolds.

During his presser, Amorim disclosed that he received a message from his compatriot and Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho.

"He sent me a message," Amorim said. "He told me it’s a lovely club, big club, with lovely people and that is correct, it is," Amorim said via Manchester Evening News. The young coach recalled his Carrington visit in 2018 when Mourinho was at the helm.

"But a lot of things have changed. We are in a different building now (at Carrington), we are building a new one. I’m a different guy. I was learning at the time and I hope to teach my players but the club is still big, it is still the best club in England and we want to win."

Mourinho coached the Red Devils for two and a half seasons. In his first season, he won the Europa League and League Cup. In his second campaign, he finished second in the Premier League.

He shut down comparisons with the former Real Madrid coach. "You look at Mourinho and you felt he can win everywhere. It’s not the same thing.

He was European champion, I’m not European champion! But I’m a different guy in a different moment." Amorim will be seeking a win in his first game as coach on Thursday against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League.
