With four matches before the end of the regular 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League season, head coach of Akwa United Ayodeji Ayeni has stressed that his team is on course to end the season on a high.

Akwa United will take on Kwara United on Monday (today), in a match-day 15 fixture in Uyo and a win will further boost their chances of keeping their place in the top-three after Plateau United temporarily moved above them following their win over Nasarawa United on Sunday.

The fixture was shifted till today by the Interim Management Committee of the NPFL due to the CAF Confederation Cup engagement of Rivers United at the Nest of Champions.

Ahead of the crunchy tie which sees their opponents also needing the result, Ayeni said his team is in good shape to fight for all three points.

“Gradually, we are getting towards the end of the season and our four remaining games are very crucial to us because we cannot afford to drop any more points. That is why we have made up our minds to approach all those games with a positive mindset.

“We are still focusing on our target which is to make it to the playoffs and for us to qualify, we need to win our games. We know that the match with Kwara United will be a tough one and we are fully prepared to give our best to ensure we get all three points,” Ayeni told the club’s website.

Meanwhile, Kwara United will be looking to get something out of the fixture having secured one win and two draws in their last three visits to Uyo. They also have a better head-to-head against their hosts having won five of their last 13 fixtures while Akwa United won four and the remaining four ended in draws.
