Akpeyi justifies fans faith, keeps clean sheet

Super Eagles goalie, Daniel Akpeyi has justified the faith fans of Kaizer Chief had in him after he kept a clean sheet on his return to the team against rivals, Chippa United.

Akpeyi was instrumental for his side after he was benched at the start of the season by coach Gavin Hunt who preferred Itumeleng Khune in goal.

The Chiefs won the fixture by 1-0.

The South African international was in goal in Chiefs Dstv Premier League opening day loss to Mamelodi Sundowns and the MTN 8, Soccernet.ng said.

However, his unconvincing displays led to calls for him to be dropped, which Hunt heeded. The former Bidvest manager decided to hand Akpeyi a start in Chiefs second league game, and it was a decision that paid off as they secured a 1-0 win over Chippa United, reports Soccernet.ng.

In a match they dominated from start to finish, it took an own goal from Gregory Damons thirteen minutes from time for Hunt’s men to secure the three points.

The result means the Chiefs pick up their first league win of the new campaign following their opening day loss to last season champions.
