Semi Ajayi has resumed training with Hull City ahead of their Championship fixture against Oxford United, easing concerns over his fitness after an injury scare during the international break, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Super Eagles defender had withdrawn from Nigeria’s camp before their friendly against Jordan national football team after sustaining a knock, missing the 2-2 draw in Antalya despite featuring for 45 minutes in the 2-1 win over Iran earlier in the window.
Ajayi’s return to full training comes as a timely boost for Hull City, who are preparing for a crucial Easter weekend clash at the Kassam Stadium, with the Nigerian centre-back expected to be part of the travelling squad.
According to Hull Live, the 32-year-old trained with his teammates at the club’s Cottingham base on Tuesday and remains in contention for selection.
“Hull City expect Semi Ajayi to be available to face Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium on Good Friday, despite returning to the club with injury worries,” Hull Live reported.
“Ajayi trained at Cottingham on Tuesday and is set to travel to Oxfordshire on Thursday evening for a crucial game at the start of the pivotal Easter weekend.”
Ajayi, who joined Hull City as a free agent from West Bromwich Albion last summer, has been a key figure in the squad, combining defensive solidity with leadership experience.
He has made 16 appearances this season, scoring once, as Hull City continue their push for a place in the Championship promotion play-offs.
His expected availability will provide a significant lift for manager Sergej Jakirović as the Tigers aim to maintain momentum in the closing stages of the campaign.
