Ahmed Musa linked with surprise Kano Pillars return

Super Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa is close to completing a short-term deal with former club Kano Pillars, according to a recent report by ACL Sports.

Musa departed Al Nassr in October and was set to join West Brom in January, but the deal fell through due to the Baggies’ financial limitations.

Musa has been in Nigeria since, and the ex-CSKA Moscow star teamed up with the Super Eagles ahead of the Afcon qualifiers against the Benin Republic and Lesotho in March.

And despite a deluge of public outcry against his selection by head coach Gernot Rohr, Musa still featured in Nigeria’s 3-0 triumph over Lesotho in Lagos, with the skipper playing the last few minutes.

Many critics were concerned about Rohr inviting Musa to play for the Super Eagles as the former VVV Venlo star is unattached.

With no club in Europe taking the chance to sign Musa on a free transfer, the Nigerian forward may think it’s best to join former side Kano Pillars to maintain his match fitness and conditioning ahead of the summer transfer window.

And with the Super Eagles kicking off their World Cup qualifying campaign in the next few weeks, delivering top performances for Sai Masugida could be an excellent way to keep the critics off his back when Rohr announced the next squad list.
