Borussia Dortmund left winger Karim Adeyemi has named the legendary Austin Jay-Jay Okocha among his top three greatest Nigerian players of all time.
Adeyemi, who was born in Munich to a Nigerian father and a Romanian mother, has always embraced his African roots.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with European-based Nigerian journalist Oma Akatugba following Dortmund's impressive 4-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, the winger named Jay-Jay Okocha, Victor Osimhen, and Victor Boniface as his best
Nigerian players, both past and present.
“I think the best player ever is Jay-Jay Okocha, of course,” Adeyemi Oma Sports.
“About great players, [Victor] Osimhen is really good, and also from [Bayer] Leverkusen, [Victor] Boniface is really good. Yeah, Nigeria has a lot of good players – and even players who do not play for Nigeria.”
Adeyemi was also asked about his decision to choose Germany over Nigeria, and he came out with the following:
“It’s a difficult question. I have to answer this to my father a lot of times,” Adeyemi said.
“It’s just like this: I had offers from the German Football Association, I had a good feeling there. And, in the end, I had to play for Germany. That’s how simple it is.”
