Adekuoroye, two others for UWW U23 tourney in Spain

The trio of Christianah Ogunsanya, Mercy Adekuoroye, and Esther Kolawole have been listed by the United World Wrestling (UWW) U-23 World Championships taking place in Spain’s eastern coastal city of Pontevedra from October 17 to 23.

Being the final World Championships of the season, the field of competitors consists of 15 World Championships at the senior level including eight senior world champions.

Ogunsanya, African Youth champion will slug it out with some of the best fighters in the 50kg, while Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Kolawole will be aiming for a podium in the 57kg.

Adekuoroye, sibling of two-time World championships medalist will be hoping to emulate her sister when she competes in the 55kg.

Also, Japan is sending a strong women’s contingent headed by Olympic and world champion Yui Susaki along with teen wonder Akari Fujinami, Nonoka Ozaki, and Miwa Morikawa.

American Amit Elor, the recently crowned world champion in Belgrade, will be aiming to win her third world title of the year having already won the U20 and senior titles.

The freestyle competition will see strong teams entered by the USA, Iran, India, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan.
