Adams responds to Sevilla exit rumours

Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has dismissed reports linking him with a summer move away from Sevilla, insisting his only focus is helping the struggling Spanish club avoid relegation from La Liga.

The 26-year-old joined Sevilla from Montpellier in January 2025, but injuries hampered his first six months at the club. He recovered to enjoy a stronger start to the current campaign, scoring against Barcelona, earning his Super Eagles debut and playing a key role in Nigeria’s bronze medal finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations under coach Eric Chelle.

However, his position at Sevilla has since become uncertain following a change in management. New coach Luis Garcia has preferred Gerard Romero and Neal Maupay in attack since replacing Matias Almeyda, leaving Adams on the fringes. The reports of a potential Premier League move appear to have emerged from that reduced role, but Adams was firm in brushing them aside.

“No, no, I have not paid attention to anything. I do not focus on those things because they do not matter right now,” he told Footy Africa.

“I am only looking forward to finishing the season strongly with my club. My teammates and I are fully focused on the team at the moment. The goal now is to keep the club in the league and hopefully finish the season in double digits in terms of goals. I do not pay attention to the news because my concentration is on ending the season well.”

Sevilla currently sit 17th in the La Liga table, a point above the relegation zone with four games remaining.

Adams is not the only Super Eagles player at the club facing an uncertain future. Winger Chidera Ejuke is also attracting interest, with several Saudi Arabian and Qatari clubs keeping tabs on the 28-year-old ahead of the summer window, according to Afrik-Foot.

Ejuke joined Sevilla as a free agent in 2024 and has made 51 appearances for the club, scoring three goals and providing two assists, though the majority of those outings have come from the bench. He did play the full 90 minutes in last weekend’s one-nil win over Real Sociedad under Garcia, completing five dribbles and creating one key chance, though his finishing again drew criticism.

Throughout his career, Ejuke has been admired for his direct running and technical ability on the ball, qualities that have drawn comparisons to Nigeria legend Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha. However, a persistent lack of end product in terms of goals and assists has prevented him from nailing down a regular starting berth at the elite level.

With just over a year remaining on his contract and no extension talks underway, Sevilla are reported to be open to selling the winger if a suitable offer arrives. The club, who signed him on a free transfer, value him at approximately €4 million and are also under pressure from La Liga’s financial regulations to raise funds through player sales. Scouts from interested Gulf clubs have already been sent to watch him on several occasions this season.
