Coach of the Pharaohs of Egypt, Carlos Queiroz says his lads gave too much respect to the Super Eagles after the one nil defeat on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.

The former Manchester United assistant coach looked on as a superior Super Eagles won the Group D opener at the Stade Omnisport Roumdeé Adija, Garoua, Cameroon.

The Pharaohs were pegged in their side of the pitch for the majority of the first half as the Super Eagles attacked mostly through the flanks, dictating the tempo of the tie.

A well-taken goal by Kelechi Iheanacho in the 30 minutes set the tie against Egypt.

The Leicester City’s forward controlled Joe Aribo's header in the box before firing past the goalkeeper.

The Egyptians never recovered from the setback and Super Eagles maintained their lead until the final whistle.

Queiroz hinted that his players showed Nigeria too much respect and should have played better.

“We respect Nigeria a lot, we didn’t play well in the first half. In the second half, we dominated. We lost the ball very quickly, we lost cohesion, but in the second half after the first half conversation, we played and control the game.”

Egypt remains bottom of the Group with 0 points, while Nigeria is leading with three points.

The other game between Sudan and Guinea-Bissau ended without a goal.
