AFCON: Iwobi closes in on Super Eagles appearance milestone

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi will make his 97th international appearance when Nigeria take on Morocco in the semi-final of the ongoing AFCON.

The 29-year-old is on the verge of becoming the third most-capped player in Super Eagles history in his next four international matches.

Ahmed Musa currently holds the record as Nigeria’s most-capped player, with 111 appearances for the Super Eagles.

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama and Joseph Yobo are level in second place with 101 caps each.

After the encounter against Morocco, four more international appearances would see Iwobi equal the joint record held by Enyeama and Yobo.

The Fulham midfielder made his international debut for the Super Eagles in a friendly match against the Democratic Republic of Congo in October 2015.
