Former Nigeria head coach Sunday Oliseh has named Fulham defender Calvin Bassey as the Super Eagles player who has impressed him the most at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

Oliseh snubbed the likes of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi, naming Bassey as the rock of the team.

According to the former midfielder, Calvin Bassey is the unsung hero of Eric Chelle's team.

“The player nobody is talking about that is impressing me most is Calvin Bassey,” Oliseh said on the Global Football Insights podcast.

Oliseh described Bassey as a player who has grown in confidence.

“My God, this boy has totally grown in confidence. He’s a rock. If you throw anything at him, he will handle it well.

“He is well complemented by Ajayi at the back.”

Calvin Bassey will lead the backline again when the Super Eagles face hosts Morocco in the mammoth semi-final clash on Wednesday, January 14, in Rabat.
