Atalanta's head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini is displeased with the departure of winger Ademola Lookman as the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations beckons.

Lookman's inclusion in Nigeria's 25-man squad for Africa's premier soccer tournament, as announced by head coach Jose Peseiro on Friday, marks the former Leicester City star's debut on this prestigious stage.

The potential month-long absence of Lookman, should Nigeria progress to the final, has Gasperini expressing concerns about the impact on Atalanta's attack.

Despite acknowledging the loss of a pivotal attacking force, Gasperini assures that he has a suitable replacement in mind.

"The prospect of Lookman departing for the AFCON is worrisome, both in terms of numbers and the quality of the matches played," expressed Gasperini, as quoted by Tutto Fantacalcio.

"Undoubtedly, we are forfeiting a crucial element in our attack, but we possess a sufficient number of players to compensate for his absence."

In the current season, the 26-year-old Lookman has exhibited his prowess with six goals and three assists in 17 league appearances for Atalanta.

In the absence of the Super Eagles star, Gasperini is left to strategize and navigate the challenges that Lookman's departure may present during this crucial period of the season.
