In times past, sports and other physical activities were seen as the preserve of men.

However, recent development appears to turn that belief on its head, justifying the famous quote which says: "What men can do women can do better".

This paints a perfect picture of Team Nigeria's performance at the just-ended Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK.

Nigeria clinched 35 medals in total including 12 gold, 9 silver, and 14 bronze.

Interestingly, the female athletes won a chunk of the medals ahead of their male counterparts.

Now let's zero in on the gender breakdown in the various medal categories.

In the gold medal category, the female athletes won all six of Nigeria's gold medals (Women 6-0 Men).

For silver, Team Nigeria's female contingents won a total of 6 silver medals leaving the male athletes with the remaining 3 silver medals (Women 6-3 Men).

The female athletes also dominated the bronze medal category, winning a total of 8 bronze medals leaving the men with 6 (Women 8-6 Men).

In general, Team Nigeria women contingents won a total of 26 medals whereas the men managed 9 medals.
