Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, has spoken for the first time about the viral picture of him bathing Spain winger Lamine Yamal as a baby.

The famous photo was taken in 2007, when Yamal was only a few months old and Messi was beginning his rise at Barcelona.

It resurfaced in 2024, when Yamal’s father described it as “the beginning of two legends.”

The two players will now face each other in the final of this year’s World Cup on Sunday.

Messi said: “That picture with Lamine… now we are facing each other in a final after a photo was taken of us when he was a baby, it’s just insane!

“We’ll try to put on a good match, but I hope he and his team don’t put on a good one.”
