Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has shared his reaction to the Super Eagles’ painful loss to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the FIFA World Cup qualifying playoffs.
The three-time African champions suffered a disappointing 4-3 loss in the shootout after 120 minutes of football ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka scored an early opener in the third minute before Mechak Elia equalized for the Leopards before the halftime break.
The defeat means the Super Eagles have now missed two consecutive FIFA World Cup tournaments.
Sharing his reaction after the game, Nwabali, who was between the sticks for the Super Eagles, took to social media to express his disappointment.
“Painful! We all did our best for the badge though our best wasn’t enough. I was once a fan and understand how it feels giving you a disappointing night. We take full responsibility,” the 29-year-old wrote on Instagram.
