Former Nigerian international Victor Ikpeba has slammed the Super Eagles players for the uncertainties surrounding their World Cup qualification campaign.
The former Super Eagles forward dismissed calls for an overhaul of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) board, instead placing the blame squarely on the playing body.
According to the ex-Borussia Dortmund star, the Super Eagles players were provided with everything needed to secure World Cup qualification, yet have failed to deliver.
Ikpeba added that critics calling for the resignation of the NFF leadership are fully aware of the efforts the Executive Committee has made to ensure that the Super Eagles qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
The 1994 AFCON winner shared these sentiments in an exclusive interview on SuperSport’s Monday Night Football show.
“Our players should take the lion’s share of the blame for our shoddy performance so far in the World Cup qualifiers,” Ikpeba said.
“They were given everything they needed to deliver qualification without stress, but somehow, they have not lived up to expectations. I won’t question their commitment, but with the quality of players we have, Nigeria should not be struggling in our group.
“Why are some people calling for the resignation of the NFF? Do they expect committee members to come and play the game on the pitch?”
