2026 WCQ: Rohr reveals why Benin can beat Nigeria in Uyo

Benin Republic head coach Gernot Rohr has fired a subtle warning to Nigeria ahead of the final FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The Super Eagles will host the Cheetahs at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo later today, Tuesday (October 14).

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Rohr stated that his side has played all their qualifier matches away from home, and that gives them confidence heading into the clash against Nigeria.

The 72-year-old urged his players to remain calm and composed as they take on the Super Eagles.

“We go for a win, but we know that we have to be patient, and we know that Nigeria has only a chance if they win, so I believe it will be a very open match,” Rohr told reporters.

“When you see that we played all the matches away — not one match at home.

“We are used to playing away and to have some finals. We had it also in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“We also had the last game very difficult in Libya under very special circumstances. Nigeria saw how it is there, and we won there in a very bad atmosphere.”
