Football governing body FIFA has deducted three points from South Africa in the World Cup qualifiers for fielding an ineligible player against Lesotho.

FIFA confirmed the sanction via its official website on Monday, September 29.

South Africa midfielder Teboho Mokoena featured in the country's 2-0 victory over Lesotho in March this year, despite being suspended for the encounter after receiving a double booking.

This decision changes the dynamics in Group C in terms of the standings ahead of the final two games in the qualifiers, slated for next month.
