2022 World Cup Qualifiers: Don’t underrate Liberia - Dosu warns Rohr

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Dosu Joseph has warned the Super Eagles against underrating Liberia ahead of the commencement of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers in September.

Super Eagles are grouped alongside Central Africa Republic, Cape Verde, and Liberia. In September, the team first welcome Liberia to Lagos, before they embark on a tricky trip to Cape Verde.

The Olympic gold medalist in an exclusive chat with Completesports.com said aside from the fact that Liberia should not be judged by their recent loss to Mauritania and Algeria in an international friendly game, the Super Eagles also struggled to impress in their double friendly game against archrivals, Cameroon.

“It will be too early to start rating Liberia very low due to the fact that they lost 1-0 to Mauritania and Algeria 5-1 in an international friendly game. Like you always, most teams will always want to save the best for the last and I won’t be surprised if we see a different Liberia side when facing the Super Eagles in Lagos ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“Besides, the Super Eagles too didn’t cover themselves in glory going by the way they played against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the two matches. If we also judge the team based on that then we could as well say it would be a balanced game regardless of who is playing at home,” Dosu said.

Rohr who has overseen Nigeria since 2016, led the Super Eagles to the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where they won bronze.

He has also qualified the Super Eagles for the forthcoming 2022 AFCON, to be held next year in Cameroon, and would be the first to qualify the Super Eagles for a successive FIFA World Cups should he guide his wards safely to Qatar 2022.
