Yesterday, Wednesday, January 7, marked exactly one year since the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) appointed Malian tactician Eric Chelle as head coach of the Super Eagles, ending the federation's long search for a substantive manager.

Chelle took over the Eagles from Augustine Eguavoen, who was in charge of the team on an interim basis.

The 48-year-old’s appointment divided opinions among fans and former internationals, as many believed Nigeria boasts quality former players who were qualified to coach the team.

However, Eric Chelle has so far proven his critics wrong with an impressive winning rate of 62.5 per cent record.

The Malian tactician has managed 10 wins, one loss, and five draws in 16 matches in charge of the Super Eagles.

The team has also scored 34 goals and conceded 15 in those appearances.

Eric Chelle's side are strong favourites to win the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The three-time African champions will take on Algeria in the quarterfinal of the tournament on Saturday, January 10.
