Fenerbahçe coach İsmail Kartal has slammed Victor Osimhen for his celebration following his brace against his team in the Intercontinental Derby on Monday night, October 26.

Osimhen proved his worth as one of the best strikers in Turkey after scoring his fifth goal in six appearances against the Yellow Canaries.

The 27-year-old opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark to give Okan Buruk’s side the lead in the derby before adding a second on the stroke of half-time.

Turkish midfielder Can Kahveci reduced the deficit for Fenerbahçe in the 62nd minute, but Galatasaray held on to see out the game.

In his post-match interview, Kartal criticised Osimhen for what he described as unsportsmanlike behaviour during his goal celebration.

“Victor Osimhen is a very good player, energetic and a very good striker, but he lacks character. A player of his level is supposed to be a role model for younger ones. He scored twice and started disrespecting Fenerbahçe fans and our player,” the manager said.

“That’s unsportsmanlike behaviour and should never be encouraged. The opposition are filled with emotions, and acting like that towards them is insensitive.”

The victory propelled Galatasaray to the top of the Süper Lig table, six points ahead of Fenerbahçe, who dropped to fifth place.
