'Desperate and predictable'- US lobbying firm responds to threat of lawsuit over President Tinubu

United States-based policy advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has declared its readiness to defend itself in court following legal threats over its report alleging a drug trafficking record linked to Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The firm made its stance public in a statement released on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, October 9, 2026, responding directly to lawsuit threats issued by former House of Representatives member Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma.

Dismissing the legal warning as an attempt at intimidation, the firm maintained that it anticipated pushback following its legal actions and reports involving the Nigerian presidency.

"The Nigerian Presidency and co. are predictable and desperate. We fully expected that, following our lawsuit, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and his allies would attempt to intimidate us into dropping the lawsuit by threatening to sue us for everything under the sun," Von Batten-Montague-York stated.

The firm further expressed confidence in facing any legal proceedings in a United States court, asserting that it welcomes the opportunity to present its case regarding democratic processes and governance in Nigeria.

"President Tinubu and co will next threaten to sue us for saying that the moon is not made of cheese. We are prepared to defend ourselves in court. We welcome any opportunity to have a US court deliberate on reports of President Tinubu’s ongoing attempts to deny the Nigerian people free and fair elections," the statement added.
