Hypocrisy is world's religion — Segalink reacts as France cracks down on violent protesters

Activist Segun Awosika, better known as Segalink, has slammed the Western world's hypocrisy amid the violent protests in France.

A quarter of a million demonstrators took to the streets across France on Tuesday as unions and teachers joined high school students to demand better learning conditions, and protests later turned into sporadic clashes with security forces.

Students have blocked the entrances to hundreds of high schools for 15- to 17-year-olds since late September, complaining of missing teachers, overloaded timetables, dilapidated classrooms and buildings that cannot cope with rising temperatures.

As French authorities crack down on the protesters, voices are beginning to condemn the action, accusing the government of disregarding human rights.

Reacting, Segalink, who backed the Nigerian government's crackdown on protesters during the EndSARS protest of 2020, described the world's silence on the French situation as hypocritical.

This was after an X user, @ennyola0015, shared a video from the crackdown on the protest, which she captioned, "Next time the West lectures you on police brutality against rioters, show them this video. Paris went full force on insurrectionists, and nobody called it state-sponsored oppression. Different rules when it's not Nigeria and not #EndSARS."

Reacting, Segalink wrote, "Hypocrisy is a religion in our world. People who haven’t walked a day in your shoes should never moralize on you.

"It’s either you sit back and watch all that you have fought for burn to ashes while overly stimulated insurrectionists pretend to be 'pissful protesters,' and those too afraid to face the resentment of the mob (sympathisers of the morally depraved) become willfully blind with their hot takes.

"No administration should judge a situation they haven’t been in. The majority of the pretentious warriors haven’t been battle-tested. Nigeria’s been there and we live to tell the tale. Now we watch how those in saner climes act differently."
