Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has drawn a direct line between his teenage years in Christian ministry and his administration's ongoing crackdown on insecurity, stating that his experience with spiritual warfare prepared him to combat cultism.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Winlos Centre, founded by popular Christian content creators Pastor Ohis and Anwili Ojeikere, the governor reflected on his youth after seeing young worshipers gathered at the event.

"When I see young ones standing in the presence of God, I remember at the age of 17/18, I’ve also started casting out demons," Okpebholo said in a video circulating on social media.

The governor explained that his early experiences in deliverances and ministry work equipped him with the mindset needed to confront security challenges facing Edo State, particularly violent cult activity.

"I started casting out demons when I was 17-18 years old, so tackling insecurity is not new to me," Okpebholo added. "So fighting insecurity, most especially cultism, is not a new thing to me. It’s something that has been happening."

Since assuming office, Governor Okpebholo has made anti-cultism enforcement and youth safety central pillars of his security agenda across the state.
