Al-Ittihad striker George Ilenikhena has shared his initial reaction following his maiden call-up to the Super Eagles during this international window.

Ilenikhena was among the players handed their first invitation to the Super Eagles by head coach Eric Chelle following his impressive performances in the Saudi Pro League.

At just 20 years old, the Lagos-born striker has gathered several experiences under his belt, playing for European clubs such as Amiens, Royal Antwerp and AS Monaco before joining Al-Ittihad in the SPL.

Ilenikhena has described his call-up to the Super Eagles as an honour and a proud moment for him. He disclosed that his first reaction was to call his parents and share the news with them.

“It is an honour, and I am very proud to wear the shirt because I was born here. It’s a big thing to represent the country,” he said.

“When I had my first call-up, I called my mom and my dad,” he added.

The young striker expressed his delight at representing the colours of Nigeria, adding that it is a great opportunity for him to show Nigerians his quality.

“To be honest, I’m very happy, really excited to be here and represent Nigeria and show the fans my quality.”

“I will give my best and show everybody that I am ready to play.”

“My personal goal is to win all the tournaments we, the Super Eagles, play in,” he added.
