Senate President Godswill Akpabio has stated that he's not the Acting President because President Bola Tinubu is still in power.

Akpabio said this to clear the air after opposition politicians claimed that Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are away from the country without leaving a handover note.

Tinubu is currently in France on a working vacation while Shettima represents him at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Akpabio, being the head of Nigeria's second tier of government, is expected to serve as the Acting President since the Executive officers are away from the country.

However, the Senate President addressed reporters on Wednesday, saying Tinubu remains President despite being abroad on holiday.

He said, "I am the Senate President and chairman of the National Assembly... I am not the acting president because the president is still in power. He is on a working leave... There is no vacancy at Aso Rock. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is still in power and running the affairs of Nigeria."
