Presidential hopeful Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC) has publicly rejected a political initiative led by Prof. Pat Utomi to unite several presidential contenders behind a single opposition candidate for 2027.

Sowore clarified that neither he nor his party are involved in the commission’s efforts and chooses not to participate, citing the AAC’s distinct political and ideological stance. He emphasised that the party's revolutionary mission is rooted in ideological integrity rather than political expediency, elite deal-making, or desperation for power.

He further stated that the AAC cannot forge alliances with the political establishment it has long challenged. Sowore pointed out that many politicians now claiming to be alternatives have, at various times, been part of the same political systems—within the APC, PDP, Labour Party, and others—that have let Nigerians down.

"Our opposition is not merely to Bola Ahmed Tinubu or the evil All Progressives Congress party. It is to the political system and governing practices that have produced decades of poverty, corruption, inequality, insecurity and underdevelopment.

"The AAC is offering Nigerians a different path: a revolutionary break from the old order and a program founded on social and economic justice, equal rights, accountable government, and the redistribution of political and economic power to the Nigerian people," he said in a statement.

Sowore emphasised that the AAC refuses to discard the program for a mere political reshuffle aimed solely at swapping one group of establishment politicians for another.

"The AAC is different. We know what we stand for, and we know the Nigeria we are fighting to build.

"We are not part of these coalition talks, and we will not be joining them," he said.
