A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Joe Igbokwe, has stated that the fight between Igbo and Yoruba people is spiralling beyond control.

According to him, a lot is at stake, which requires emotional intelligence to address.

He shared on X, "This rofo rofo fight and abuses between Igbo and the Yoruba Nation is gravitating into something else and I want it to stop. A lot is at stake, and we need to apply emotional intelligence to address this scourge. We need one another."

In other news, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, has confirmed a fatal road traffic collision on the Ibadan–Lagos route at Straight Gate at about 0400hrs on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

The incident involved a blue Mitsubishi Cabstar, registration number FGE 753 XA, and an ash-coloured HOWO truck, registration number T-695 KT.

In a statement, FRSC Chief Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi stated that four persons (all males) were killed as a result of the crash, while one male sustained injuries. Odunsi added that three persons survived the accident unhurt.

He stated that preliminary investigation indicates that the crash was caused by speed violation (SPV) and wrong overtaking (WOV).

"The Mitsubishi driver, reportedly travelling at high speed, rammed into the moving truck while attempting to overtake. Fatigue was also identified as a contributing factor, as the driver was reportedly fatigued during the journey.

"The FRSC rescue team received the report at 0433hrs and arrived at the scene at 0439hrs, recording a six-minute response time.
The injured victim was rescued and taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the FOS Mortuary, Ipara.

"The crashed vehicles were handed over to the Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Isara Division, for further investigation and necessary action.

"The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, therefore urges motorists to avoid speeding, fatigue and unsafe overtaking, especially during early-morning journeys. Drivers are advised to take adequate rest before embarking on long-distance trips and to overtake only when it is safe and permissible to do so. Drive with Care. Better to be late than never," Odunsi said.
