Abdul Rasheeth, an aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has said presidential candidate Peter Obi is seeking to dump the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

MyNigeria reported that early this year, Obi left the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the NDC after contesting for president in 2023 on the Labour Party platform.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, served as running mate to Atiku in the 2019 presidential election, which they lost to incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.

In 2023, Atiku and Obi also contested on separate tickets against Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC, who went on to win the poll.

Shortly after joining the NDC, dumping Atiku in the ADC, thereby shattering any hopes of a coalition championed by Atiku, reports are emerging that Obi is set to dump the NDC. This time around, the former governor is believed to be eyeing a move to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

MyNigeria has learned that Obi is currently attending the inauguration of the campaign office of APM's Presidential Candidate, Seyi Makinde, in Abuja.

According to Atiku's aide, Obi's new move may not be unconnected to the treatment he's receiving at the hands of Senator Seriake Dickson, who leads the NDC and is popularly known on social media as Supreme Leader.

He shared on X, "There is unrest within the NDC, and Peter might leave to join the APM. The supreme leader isn't giving them any room to breathe."
