President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Senate Majority Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele to a senior position in the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign council ahead of the 2027 general election.

Bamidele was named Deputy Director-General, South II, in the 223-member campaign council constituted by Tinubu as the ruling party intensifies preparations for the next presidential election.

The composition of the council was contained in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Tinubu will serve as chairman of the campaign council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda will serve as vice chairmen.

Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator, Abdulaziz Yari, was appointed Director-General of the campaign, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will serve as secretary.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were also assigned senior positions within the campaign structure.

Bamidele, who represents Ekiti Central in the Senate, will serve alongside Barau as Deputy Director-General South II.

The appointment places one of the APC’s key figures in the National Assembly at the centre of Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.

The National Assembly currently lists Bamidele as the Senate Majority Leader, alongside Akpabio as Senate President and Barau as Deputy Senate President.

The campaign council brings together governors, federal lawmakers, party officials and other senior APC figures from across the country.

The structure gives the ruling party a broad political network as it prepares for what is expected to be a closely contested 2027 presidential election.

Tinubu’s latest appointments also underline the growing involvement of the National Assembly leadership in the APC’s campaign machinery.
