A northern cleric has called on religious leaders and voters across the region to reject President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, alleging that about 500 clerics were mobilised at five separate meetings where millions of naira were distributed to secure support for the President’s re-election.

In a viral video, the cleric alleged that the meetings were held three times in Kaduna, once in Abuja and once in Jigawa as part of efforts to mobilise religious leaders behind Tinubu and secure their endorsement for a second term.

He claimed that about 500 clerics attended the gatherings and alleged that those who attended the Abuja meeting received N3 million each.

At another meeting, according to him, participants were handed parcels containing an undisclosed amount of money.

However, the cleric said the religious leaders were not assembled to discuss the worsening economic hardship and security challenge confronting Nigerians or to give feedback on the condition of the people to the President.

Instead, he alleged that the meetings were largely political gatherings presided over by governors, followed by music and praise-singing in support of Tinubu.

He condemned the development, saying religious leaders should serve as representatives of the people before government and as representatives of God before the people.

He argued that clerics should constantly approach authorities with the plight of citizens and demand action on issues affecting their communities rather than allow themselves to be turned into political praise-singers.
