A newspaper article from 1978 has revealed that President Bola Tinubu did attend Chicago State University, putting to rest some claims about his educational background.

The article, originally written by Sharon Kornegay for the Chicago Sun-Times, tells the story of 12 black students of Chicago State University being given an introduction to the historically all-white business of racing—a milestone move in 1970s America.

Excerpt reads, “BOLA TINUBU, a student [of Chicago State University] from Nigeria, said he expects to take his findings back to African businessmen as a plan for his country to make more money and create jobs for the unemployed.”

MyNigeria recalls that in 2022, Nigeria's Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, confirmed that Tinubu did graduate from Chicago State University.

Omokri, who was fiercely opposed to Tinubu's presidential bid, travelled to the institution to confirm if the school had anything to do with the then-presidential candidate.

He later made his findings public, stating that Tinubu did graduate from the institution.

Meanwhile, a new controversy is brewing concerning Tinubu's primary school records. This followed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) making his credentials public.

Many Nigerians raised questions after noticing that his primary school records were missing in the credentials.

The Presidency is yet to address the concerns; neither has INEC stated whether the omission can hinder him from getting re-elected.
