Spanish champions FC Barcelona have reportedly taken the lead in the race to sign Spain captain Rodri from Manchester City.

Rodri has widely been linked with a move to Real Madrid after guiding La Roja to glory during the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The 30-year-old, who was adjudged the Best Player of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, was said to be in talks with Los Blancos over a possible move to the club.

However, a recent report from AS indicates that Barcelona have also entered the race to sign the midfielder.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the former Ballon d'Or winner now has the final say on which club he will join among the two rivals.

"Barcelona have made contact with Rodri's camp and also with Manchester City about possible move.

"Real Madrid have been in talks with City for weeks but #MCFC didn't accept to proceed immediately as he felt more clubs were joining the race.

"It's up to the player," he said.
