Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has claimed that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, being constructed by the President Bola Tinubu administration, will not go beyond Epe in Lagos.
Duke, who is the Presidential Candidate of the People’s Redemption Party, made the statement when he appeared on Arise TV.
He said, "Nigeria cannot afford the Lagos-Calabar Highway; I don’t think the road will go beyond Epe>
"There is already a road from Lagos to Calabar; if the road is poor, fix it. There are some expenditures we make that do not reflect the realities of our circumstances. The amount spent on that road could be better spent providing electricity or upgrading the healthcare system."
However, a fact check by MyNigeria reveals that Duke's belief is wrong because the road's construction has gone beyond Epe in Lagos.
According to data, the coastal highway has reached Ondo, crossing from Lagos through Ogun State. Also, construction is ongoing from the Calabar end, in a state once governed by Duke. The road is also being constructed in the Akwa-Ibom section.
