Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen declined the invitation to wear the Galatasaray captain's armband during the club's pre-season friendly against Rennes.
The Super Lig champions played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with the Ligue 1 outfit at RAMS Park on Sunday, August 2.
Osimhen scored the opener in minute 18 following an inch-perfect cross from Gabriel Sara.
However, an incident occurred in the second half of the game following Abdülkerim Bardakcı's substitution in the 74th minute.
The Turkish international handed the captain's armband to Osimhen to assume the leadership role for the remainder of the game, but the Nigerian international instead transferred the armband to Yunus Akgün.
Surprised by Osimhen's decision, Akgün tried to convince the former African Footballer of the Year to keep the band, but he refused.
This development comes against the backdrop of Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk's decision to name Osimhen as one of the team's captains following the exit of Mauro Icardi.
This is not the first time Osimhen has turned down an armband — he did the same in a Süper Lig match against Antalyaspor earlier this season when Ilkay Gündoğan tried to hand it to him.
