The Federal Government on Tuesday unveiled the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) Programme, an initiative aimed at providing Nigerians with affordable access to laptops, internet-enabled devices and other digital tools through structured consumer credit.
Implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the programme seeks to deepen digital inclusion, improve access to technology and promote responsible consumer credit.
Launched in collaboration with the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme, the initiative will initially provide eligible Nigerians with financing for locally assembled laptops before expanding to other digital devices. It is also expected to support local manufacturing, enhance digital skills, boost productivity and increase participation in Nigeria’s digital economy.
Speaking at the launch in Abuja, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, said access to affordable credit is critical to economic transformation and commended President Bola Tinubu and CREDICORP for driving the initiative.
“That’s what President Bola Tinubu is doing. When he said he wants to create a $1 trillion economy, there’s no other way to create that economy but what we’re here to launch today,” he said.
Tijani noted that the administration’s efforts to build a robust credit ecosystem would stimulate entrepreneurship, create jobs and empower individuals and businesses to acquire productive assets that improve livelihoods and contribute to national development.
A major highlight of the event was the symbolic presentation of laptop computers to some beneficiaries by the minister.
Earlier, CREDICORP Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Uzoma Nwagba, announced that the corporation would provide 1,000 locally assembled laptops to eligible 3MTT fellows nationwide to enhance digital inclusion and access to technology.
He explained that the rollout began in Abuja, where 77 beneficiaries received laptops, while the remaining devices would be distributed to qualified fellows across other states in phases.
According to Nwagba, the initiative will equip young Nigerians with essential digital tools, improve their learning experience, support local manufacturing and create opportunities for technology-driven employment and entrepreneurship.
He added that the programme forms part of CREDICORP’s broader commitment to expanding access to affordable digital devices and empowering more Nigerians to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
