One Kowiu Oloyede, aged 25, has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for claiming that bandits had invaded Atan Ota, Ogun State.
Oloyede had made a TikTok video to create panic among residents. When arrested, he claimed he made the video to trend and gain followers on TikTok.
In a statement, the police in Ogun said that upon receiving intelligence regarding the suspect, he was brought in for questioning.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Bode Ojajuni, has categorically debunked rumours and misleading reports alleging the imposition of a curfew or movement restrictions in Ogun State.
The Command assured residents and members of the public that the security situation across the state remains peaceful and under control, with adequate deployment of personnel and operational assets strategically emplaced to maintain law and order and protect lives and property.
Residents are therefore advised to disregard unverified reports that could cause unnecessary panic and to continue their lawful activities without fear.
