A video on social media shows Muraina Mutairo, the Onisa of Esin Ele in Oyo State, invoking the gods to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped Ogbomoso school students and teachers.
See the video below.
The victims were abducted last week, and they are believed to be held hostage in the forest of the Old Oyo National Park in Oyo State.
Reacting to the video, an X user, @joy_ciana, said, "Yeye...where were the so-called gods when the kidnapping was happening? I'm sure that these men are part of the people who voted for Tinubu because he's a Yoruba man. Misplaced priorities."
@Teejayblaze4kry said, "Yes, it shouldn't have gotten to this extent if only our government were fighting against terrorism, I mean, we have to protect our own people in the way and manner we know how to do best. Ire o."
@DoyinJack said, "You don't have to believe in the efficacy of this but this is just one of the beauties of Yorubaland. Most of those kids (based on their names) are Christians and Muslims. But the traditionalists have taken this desecration of Kaaaro Oojire as what concerns them too. This reminds me of the Owo Church massacre. Immediately after the incident happened, those who passionately reacted and took over the defense of the community were initially the traditionalists. Despite growing up in Ondo, I’ve never seen them that angry before in my life. They didn't see religion: they saw community; they saw Yorubaness; they saw humanity.
"While we continue to mourn and must call for more actions and proactive reforms from those in government, moments like this are also teachable. They remind us of the power of community: who we are and the price our ancestors paid to preserve our freedom and culture.
"And because of their commitment, service, and that of those who are in mosques, churches, and very importantly: because of our brave sons and daughters who are in our forests and on our streets, risking their lives to free our kids and keep our people safe, we will prevail."
