The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Idrisu Musa, in connection with the alleged murder of his elder brother, Muhammad Haruna, and Haruna’s wife, Habiba Muhammad, in Jega Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the couple was attacked with a cutlass while sleeping in their home in Asarara Village, Kimba District.

Police said both victims sustained fatal injuries and were confirmed dead following the attack.

Police Recover Evidence Linking Suspect To Crime

The Command disclosed that substantial and incriminating evidence had been recovered, allegedly linking the suspect to the killings.

Investigators also revealed that Idrisu Musa had reportedly threatened the couple with a cutlass on several occasions before the incident.

“Substantial and implicating evidence has been recovered linking the suspect to the crime,” the police statement said.

Community Mourns Tragic Loss

Family members and residents described the late Muhammad Haruna as a peaceful and quiet individual who was not known for conflicts or disputes within the community.

A local source said the incident plunged Asarara Village into mourning, with neighbours and sympathisers gathering at the family residence after the gruesome discovery.

The deceased couple is survived by six children — four boys and two girls — who have now been left orphaned.

Commissioner Orders Transfer To SCID

The Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, CP Umar Hadejia, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

He assured members of the public that the command would pursue justice diligently and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Bureau News reports that the incident has sparked widespread grief in the community, with residents calling for swift justice for the slain couple.
