Former Minister of Transportation and Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has urged Nigerians to judge who is fit to be president in 2027 by what the aspirants did when they governed states.
According to him, his impact as governor of Rivers State should be scrutinised, likewise whatPeter Obi achieved as governor of Anambra State.
He also urged Nigerians to scrutinise President Bola Tinubu and his achievements as governor of Lagos, and also Atiku Abubakar when he was vice president.
He told Channels TV, "Go to Anambra State and see what Peter Obi has done. Atiku was vice president; let's see what he's done and what he did in customs. Look at what Tinubu has done in Lagos and in Nigeria now; come to Rotimi Amaechi in Rivers State and look at what I've also done in transportation, and choose who’d be the presidential candidate. Do a referendum; all the aspirants who are running for presidency have served in government....."
Amaechi also rejected calls for a consensus candidate to fly the presidential flag of the African Democratic Congress.
He said, "There must be a primary election in the ADC. I don't agree with those who say there should be a consensus candidate. A 49-year-old has been elected in Benin Republic. I'm the youngest candidate among all those running now, I'm 60."
