Bashir El-Rufai has disagreed with his father, former Governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai, on the privatisation of public assets by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

In his book ”The Accidental Public Servant”, ex-governor El-Rufai suggested that Atiku, as chairman of the National Council on Privatisation (NCP), meddled in the privatisation of NITEL, which ultimately truncated the process.

Atiku, in his capacity as the Vice President of the Federal Republic, was chairman of the NCP, the government committee entrusted with the responsibility of managing the privatisation programme initiated by the Olusegun Obasanjo administration to handle the disposal of public enterprises to interested Nigerians and other categories of investors.

According to El-Rufai, Atiku’s meddlesomeness suggested he had pecuniary interest in some of the deals.

The issue of privatisation was again raised on Thursday by President Bola Tinubu, who accused Atiku of attempting to “privatise” the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid its ongoing leadership crisis.

While hosting a delegation of Renewed Hope Ambassadors at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu said, “The head [Atiku] was the chairman of the privatisation council of Nigeria. He privatised the steel industry in Delta; is it working today? No. He privatised Ajaokuta. Is it working today? No, I can go on to list,” the president said.

“They privatise another man’s political party, but the man (owner) said no,” he added.

Despite what Tinubu and his father El-Rufai, said about Atiku and privatisation, Bashir El-Rufai disagreed with both men on X.

He said, "Say what you may about Atiku but his leadership of the Privatization program while he was Vice-President was impeccable."

His words were slammed by an X user. @OnikoyiBankole, who said, "You are a fool. Thousands of government workers lost their jobs without benefits after the thief you are supporting sold most of those orgs to his fellow crook. U are here spewing rubbish because u were a toddler during that time and up till now, u still have the brain of a toddler."

@juicynews4you asked, "So, where are the privatised companies now? All dead and just being revived by pBAt administration.
Doesn't that put a question mark on his "leadership" capabilities? That's enough reason not to vote for him."
