Nigeria will face Portugal and Poland in high-profile international friendlies in June as part of preparations for upcoming competitions, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigeria Football Federation announced on Thursday that the Super Eagles, fresh from a 2-1 victory over Iran and a 2-2 draw against Jordan during their recent outing in Antalya, Turkey, are set for what it described as an exciting summer programme against two European sides.

Details of the fixtures were also outlined, with the federation’s FIFA match agent Jairo Pachon of Eurodata Sport confirming that Nigeria will face Poland at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw on June 3, before travelling to Portugal for a second friendly on June 10, with the venue yet to be announced.

Portugal have also acknowledged the fixture, describing Nigeria as their final opponents before departing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

In a statement, the Portuguese Football Federation noted that the match will serve as a key preparatory fixture ahead of the tournament, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The upcoming meeting will be only the second encounter between both nations, with their previous clash coming in November 2022 when Portugal recorded a 4-0 victory in Lisbon through goals from Bruno Fernandes, Gonçalo Ramos and João Mário.

Portugal’s decision to face Nigeria is believed to be influenced by their World Cup group schedule, following the qualification of the DR Congo, who will be their opening Group K opponents one week after the friendly against the Super Eagles.

In terms of global standings, Nigeria are currently ranked 26th in the FIFA rankings, while Portugal sit fifth and Poland are placed 35th.

The fixtures present an opportunity for Nigeria to test themselves against top European opposition as they continue to build momentum, with fans anticipating strong performances from key players just after the 2026 Unity Cup.
