Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has said it is not anti-party activity to support the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu as a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to him, the only candidate seemingly vying for the presidency on the PDP platform is Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
Speaking during an interview with Channels TV, Fayose said he believes Tinubu is a better man for the presidency than his fellow party member, Makinde.
He said, "Supporting Tinubu as a PDP member is not anti-party. We must not say it's our party member who must win when we know our party member has no capacity. Would you compare a Makinde to an Asiwaju?"
On the political situation in Ekiti State, Fayose stated that the current governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has the support of the people and leaders, regardless of political affiliation.
“Nigeria is for all of us, you are first an Ekiti man before you become a political party card bearer. All the former governors are behind the current governor,” he said.
He also cited examples from international politics to support his position.
“Obama is not supporting the Democrats, the former president is not supporting Trump, have they expelled them? No, democracy will have those differences on national issues,” he stated.
