Unilever Nigeria Plc has upgraded facilities at Local Government Primary School, Elero-Igbesa, in Ogun State, renovating classroom blocks, installing modern toilets, and providing solar power to improve learning conditions.

According to a statement, the company partnered with GEP to execute the project, which it handed over on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.

The intervention included refurbished and ventilated classrooms, upgraded sanitation facilities, and the installation of solar panels to provide sustainable energy. The firm said the move aims to create brighter and safer spaces where pupils can learn and thrive.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Ogun State, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, praised the initiative and urged other corporate organisations to emulate the gesture.




Arigbabu explained that the intervention aligns with the state government’s school infrastructure renewal agenda and strengthens efforts to improve public education standards.

The Managing Director of Unilever Nigeria Plc, Tobi Adeniyi, said the project aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 and the Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda.

“Every child has earned the right to quality education. And beyond the four walls of the classrooms, we must ensure that our children are equipped with an enabling environment that helps them to concentrate, learn, and dream. This project is part of our sustainability agenda to improve lives and empower future generations,” Adeniyi said.

He added that the renovation, sanitation upgrades, and renewable energy installations will support the government’s drive for safer and healthier learning spaces.

According to him, “Upgrading sanitation facilities, constructing new toilets, and incorporating sustainable solutions through the addition of solar panels and proper ventilation of the classrooms are geared towards contributing to the improvement of education and supporting the government’s push for a safe, healthy, and conducive learning space that enhances pupils’ attendance, concentration, and academic performance.”

The Oloja-Ekun of Igbesaland, Ado-Odo Local Government, Oba Abdul-Azeez Akinde, commended the company for the intervention.

“Your intervention has not only improved the physical infrastructure, but it has also strengthened the spirit of hope, unity, and pride within our community. By creating a safer and more conducive learning environment, you have empowered our children and reassured our parents, and we have found the value of collective responsibility in community development,” Akinde said.

On their part, the Head of Communications, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Unilever Nigeria Plc, Zainab Obagun, and the Procurement Manager at GEP, Tamara Van den Borre, maintained that the project was driven by the goal of providing children with a safer and more inspiring learning environment.

They said well-equipped and welcoming classrooms motivate pupils, improve concentration, and enhance both academic and social development.

The Headmistress, Yemisi Olugbile, thanked the company for the gesture and expressed optimism that the improved facilities would boost pupils’ performance and increase parents’ confidence in the school.
