American TV host Tony Perkins has shared that First Lady Remi Tinubu attempted to engage him in discussions about religious freedom in Nigeria. He declined, stating he does not want his platform to be used to obscure issues in Nigeria.
Perkins, who hosts Washington Watch, made this disclosure during a February 4 episode featuring U.S. lawmaker Chris Smith, when the topic of religious freedom was addressed.
During the discussion, Smith criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for denying responsibility for Christian casualties in Nigeria, while secretly employing American lobbyists to minimize the controversy. Perkins revealed that Mrs. Tinubu had approached him to appear on his program.
“The First Lady of Nigeria was here this week, and in fact, they wanted to come on the programme to talk about religious freedom, and I said, ‘I’m not gonna meet with them or have a meeting with anybody,'” Mr Perkins said.
The broadcast journalist added, “I’m not gonna give them a platform to cover up what they’re doing in Nigeria.”
