Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has revealed why he joined La Liga giants Atlético de Madrid during the winter transfer window.
The 28-year-old joined Diego Simeone’s side from Italian club Atalanta in a deal reported to be worth around €35 million, with a potential €5 million in add-ons.
The former African Footballer of the Year was officially unveiled at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday, February 3.
During his unveiling, the former Leicester City loanee disclosed that he held discussions with Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone before deciding to make the move to the Madrid-based club.
“I spoke with him and we had a good conversation. It is wonderful to be able to communicate with the person you will be working with every day. So, very good,” Lookman said.
He added, “My game is very dynamic; it’s based a lot on speed. I aim to make a difference in those crucial moments of the game.
“It’s a great challenge to be at Atlético de Madrid. The truth is, it’s wonderful for me to be here. It’s a great responsibility to represent my country, but it’s also a pleasure to wear the colours of such a special club as Atlético de Madrid.
“Being here is extremely important to me; it’s something I’m very proud of. It is also a pleasure for me to play in this very special league.”
Lookman is reportedly in contention to make his debut for Atlético Madrid in their Copa del Rey clash against Real Betis on Wednesday night.
