The FCT Police Command has said it is aware of a planned peaceful protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) FCT Council scheduled for Tuesday, 3rd February 2026.

In a statement, the command said that while it respects the constitutional right to peaceful assembly, intelligence reports indicate plans by proscribed groups and other non-state actors to infiltrate and hijack the protest, posing a risk to public peace and safety.

In the interest of public safety, the police advised the organisers to consider rescheduling the protest to prevent any breakdown of law and order and to protect lives, property, and the rights of other residents.

It reiterated its commitment to safeguarding all lawful activities and urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies to keep the FCT peaceful and secure.

Meanwhile, the NLC is yet to reaction to the statement issued by the police aganst its planned protest.
