A Chinese businesswoman has openly expressed strong anger and deep dissatisfaction over the prolonged closure of the Main Market in Onitsha, Anambra State. She stated that the continued shutdown has seriously disrupted commercial activities, brought businesses to a standstill, and caused significant financial losses for traders operating within and around the market.

According to her, thousands of people—ranging from local traders, loaders, transporters, suppliers, and artisans to foreign investors—depend on the daily operations of the market for their survival. The closure, she noted, has not only affected livelihoods but has also created growing uncertainty and fear among both local and international business partners who rely on Onitsha Main Market as a major commercial hub in West Africa.

She further warned that prolonged inactivity could damage investor confidence, weaken cross-border trade relationships, and negatively impact the overall economy of Anambra State. Calling on the relevant authorities to act urgently, she appealed for a swift and sustainable solution that would allow the market to reopen safely and restore normal business activities.
