Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, has insisted that centre-back Calvin Bassey had a great AFCON tournament.
Chelle said this while speaking on the player that would replace Bassey in his starting XI when Nigeria tackles the Pharaohs of Egypt in the AFCON third-place playoff on Saturday evening.
Bassey is suspended for the Egypt game as a result of the yellow card he received against Morocco.
“Calvin [Bassey] will not play the Egypt match,” Chelle said to reporters in his pre-match interview.
“The captain Wilfred Ndidi didn’t play the game against Morocco [because of suspension too].
“Calvin had a great AFCON tournament in Morocco, but there are some players who can take his position. I’ve to find the best player for the team in this game against Egypt.”
