Mikel Obi has named four Super Eagles players who have impressed most at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The three-time champions booked their place in the quarter-finals after thumping Mozambique 4-0 in the round of 16, courtesy of Victor Osimhen's brace and a goal each from Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams.
Eric Chelle's side boasts the most lethal attack in the tournament, with 12 goals in four matches.
Nigeria has scored more goals than any other team in the competition, a sharp contrast to Jose Peseiro’s team at the last edition in Côte d’Ivoire.
Speaking on his Obi One podcast, Mikel Obi named the quartet of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, and skipper Wilfred Ndidi as the players who have been impressive for Nigeria.
“I really want to see Victor Osimhen be the top goalscorer because he deserves it,” Mikel said on The Obi One Podcast.
“Ademola Lookman as well, playing really well.”
He continued, “Alex Iwobi has been really amazing in this tournament. I’ve been looking forward to this from Alex Iwobi for a long time.
“Finally, we get to see the Alex Iwobi everyone is familiar with, performing well, everything flowing through him, making good chances, and delivering those passes.
“Of course, Ndidi, who is the captain and a key player in the team, helps keep everything balanced.”
Nigeria will hope to maintain their remarkable record in the competition when they take on Algeria in the quarterfinal on Saturday, January 10.
